Information about the Bogdan municipality
The Bogdan municipality is located in the Rakhiv district of the Transcarpathian region - in the Hutsul region. This is a unique community, the walls of which are the most famous mountain ranges: the Chornohora and Marmarosh ridges. All 5 of the highest peaks of Ukraine are located on the Chornohora ridge. The highest mountain lake in Ukraine – Brebeneskul is located here. On the other side of the Marmarosh massif – the famous Hutsul Alps and their pearl, Pip Ivan of Marmarosh. The White Tysa flows through the territory of the Bogdan municipality, moreover, here, in the Ustyeriki tract, the White and Black Tysa merge, giving rise to the important Central European river Tysa (Tisza).
Local residents are traditionally engaged in logging. In ancient times, logs were connected into special rafts – daraba – and floated down the Tysa river. Another traditional occupation of the Bogdan’s Hutsuls is sheep breeding. Herding sheep on the high mountain meadows, local shepherds produce a product that is included in the UNESCO World Intangible Heritage List – Hutsul Sheep Bryndza. As well it is impossible not to mention the artisans of the Bogdan municipality, who continue the age-old traditions of folk crafts.
